Vedaa is a movie about a young woman resisting the caste system and fighting against the antagonist.
Wait no… sorry, Vedaa is a movie based on true events about honour killings.
Oh wait no sorry again, Vedaa is about a court martialed Major who fights against the UC Landlords to save a helpless girl
Well, whatever it is, Vedaa tries to make a social point without actually having one.
It starts off really well and shows potential as Sharvari Wagh tries to find her place in a society heavily dominated by its caste politics.
And then comes in John Abraham with his 200 kgs of muscles.
John has muscles even on his face, so when he tries to act it looks like he is lifting weights with his cheek muscles.
Fortunately John has only two expressions to give. One when he is angry and one when he is super angry. So basically it’s the same.
Sharvari Wagh who is touted as the next best thing to happen to Bollywood after 70mm screen has wasted another opportunity to put in a performance which could have been noted, despite the writer backed character.
The story goes all over the place as the Director Nikhil Advani tries to make up his mind if he is making an action/chase/survival movie or a social movie that makes a statement against the caste oppression…fails miserably on both counts.
But there is one saving grace for the movie…
Abhishek Banerjee
Damn that guy can act. He becomes the sole reason why you can tolerate the 2 hrs of cacophony.
You can’t even imagine that the Chomu in Stree can be so ferocious and blood thirsty.
Every scene that he is in is immensely watchable as he flips between a sophisticated politician and a raving maniac with ease.
But beyond Abhishek Banerjee’s fantastic performance the movie has very little to offer.
If you just want to watch that one person give one of his best performances ever, do watch Vedaa…..or else….avoid avoid avoid.
#DaMoRating: 5/10
Disclaimer: The movie gets ZERO points. All 5 points are given to Abhishek. Okay maybe 1/2 point given to John Abraham’s bike
