Two cops with distinctly different personalities, both pitted against each other, both trying to solve the same murder case in which one of them is implicated
Jis Joy weaves an intricate web of thrill and suspense as he takes us to a small police station in Kerala and traps us into a complicated crime which keeps us guessing till the end.
The screenplay is very clever where enough clues are given and yet a lot is kept hidden from us, getting us involved and yet confused about the way things will turn out.
The character development is quick and nuanced giving us a different lead than the regular “troubled cop with a drinking habit”.
Biju Menon and Asif Ali have both done a fabulous job at playing the two diverse leads pitted against each other and yet together.
The movie is fast paced, despite the length, and keeps you engrossed.
There are a few drawbacks though, the fight scenes are unnecessarily long drawn out and quite cliched.
The dark room scenes towards the end don’t really help.
But despite these minor flaws, Thalavan is immensely watchable.
Especially, if you are a murder mystery investigation genre fan like me, go for it.
DaMoRating: 7/10
Disclaimer: Stop asking me why I give 7 points to a movie I like. You want to give 10/10 go ahead and give it. 7/10 is a FULL 2 marks above average. I am stingy with my marks and will remain so. Quit complaining
