Devara Part 1 (2024)
A movie made for the masses is usually supposed to be intense, grandiose, with high voltage action, stars with huge fan base, seeti maar songs and dances and a racy plot. Devara gets all of this but forgets to get in the plot. So we…

Meiyazhagan (2024)
Meiyazhagan is an emotional rollercoaster in the best ways. It tugs at your heartstrings, squeezing out the essence of everything good in relationships, family, and the goodness of people—in the best of times, and at the worst. Does it succeed? Very well. The movie sets…

Do Patti (2024)
DO PATTI, BUT EK NA CHALI!Do Patti scores top marks for me as one of the worst A-lister Hindi films I have seen in recent times. I like both Kriti Sanon and Kajol as very capable actors, but Do Patti is that one film that…

Venom: the Last Dance (2024)
VENOMENAL? NOT QUITE. I rarely watch movies on the first day of its release. Yes, I do sometimes; usually Superstar Rajini’s movies (not all of them!), or something I got super-hyped waiting for—like The Batman (the new one). This time was a fluke thanks once…

Meiyazhagan (2024)
Once, during the evening, I sat down on the balcony and stared at the sky. I watched the sky change its color, hues of bright blue turning darker, the sky getting swirled with shades of orange and pink as the sun started setting. And then…

1000 Babies (2024)
It’s gruesome, it’s horrifying, it’s terrifying and yet it tends to lose its grip. 1000 Babies starts off really well as it creates a web of intrigue backed by a melancholy setting about an old crazy woman who seems to have lost her mental balance.…
-
Khel Khel Mein (2024)
The plot is stolen (okay, adapted). Even the title is stolen from an old Rishi Kapoor movie. The star cast seems frivolous. The trailer made it look like a slapstick comedy. And it has Akshay Kumar. So basically I went about watching this movie with…

Stree 2 (2024)
Stree 2 is the 4th installment in the Maddock Supernatural Universe, directed by Amar Kaushik. And as things would have it, the supernatural universe gets worse and worse. The movie is one more entry into the genre of “horror-comedy” where the horror is funny and…

Auron Mein kahan Dum Tha (2024)
I will begin by saying that Neeraj Pandey deserves a huge round of applause for making this movie. It takes some serious courage to think that the viewers of the 21st century are a bunch of morons. And this sort of courage shouldn’t go unappreciated.…
