On a well done backdrop of late 1980s (early 90s) Venky Alturi takes you to the Bombay of stock market scams and financial dealings.
This was a time when Mumbai was still Bombay, scams were still caught and the scamsters were still jailed, institutions like CBI and RBI did their own job and not everyone got a clean chit or wore white and won elections.
Dulquer Salmaan plays Baskar Kumar a small time bank cashier who chances upon a smuggling scheme to make some money.
The movie takes you on a super fun ride as Baskar shifts from small time schemes to one of the biggest scams possible which is aligned with none other than Harshad Mehta…..sorry sorry Harsha Mehra (but we know who it is )
The story is very cleverly written with enough twists to keep you engaged right till the end.
The movie is pacy with no dull moments and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
The performances are brilliant.
Dulqueer outshines as he shifts seamlessly between the poor and friendly to the rich and arrogant character is most likeable at all times.
The rest of the cast is steady in their support of the script though the movie is all about Baskar everyone else is simply there to aid the story move forward.
Fortunately the language is clean and the movie can be easily watched with the entire family.
Though the movie has enough thrills, it is essentially a light watch and will make you smile.
The movie is originally in Telugu but is also available in several other language including Hindi and comes with English subtitles.
#DaMoRating: 9/10
Disclaimer: I would have actually rated it 8 but I gave it one point extra for the funny title “Lucky Bas@@@@” and because they put a disclaimer explaining why everyone in Mumbai was speaking in Telugu
